Can I replace or delete my entry?
Yes, you can replace one image for another by clicking on the image. The replacement file must have a different name.
What photo can I submit to this contest?
Only images taken by you in the State of Hawai‘i during March 25th till October 30th 2020 that are related to the photo contest theme of the Covid -19 pandemic in Hawaiʻi. No participating event vendors nor the Noyle or jury’s Ohana, may enter.
What are the contest dates?
- Contest open for entries on: October 12th, 2020
- Contest entries close on November 2nd, 2020-10pm HST

- Contest theme 30% People in Hawaiʻi.
- Technical Proficiency 30%
- Artistic and Visual Impact. 40%
How do I enter my photos?
When you register to attend PhotoCon Hawaiʻi Virtual you will receive details and a link to upload your image.A completed and signed official entry online form must be used for all entries.
Can I use any camera for this photo contest?
Yes, you can use any type of camera or smart phone
Who can enter this photo contest?
It is open to professional photographers, amateur photographers, students, visitors and all residents who are “like minded image creators” of Hawai‘i.
Who owns the copyright of my images?
Image copyright remains the property of the photographer even though permission to use imagery is given to PhotoCon Hawai‘i
Will I need a model release for my images?
- Individuals entering the photo contest must warrant that they have the right to enter the image on behalf of any reconizable people in the image. If applicable, a model release may be required by PhotoCon Hawai‘i should your image be selected.
What will happen if someone sees my image in the contest and wants to use is for commercial use?
Contestants will be notified regarding any image usage rights requests should PhotoCon Hawai‘i be approached with a commercial opportunity related to your images. Photographer will have final say.
Will my images have my name and © protection?
When appropriate PhotoCon Hawai‘i will include photographer’s name and © credit.
How many images can I enter?
Only one (1) image per person who has registered to attend workshops, may be entered
How do I prepare my images to upload?
Images must be submitted as follows.
Digital files must be saved as 72 dpi at 2000px longest side in RGB. Files should be named YourLastName_YourFirstName_image title.jpg. Note: No accented characters in file name. (i.e #2*)
Please read the Contest Rules and prepare your images for uploading according to the instructions.
You must be able to supply a high-resolution image (300dpi) suitable for printing in media and an exhibition, if you win a place in the contest.
What is the image Caption?
Your image caption will be used for anything noteworthy about your image. What, where, date and a brief description.
Can I enter either color or B/W images?
Images may be color, black and white or duotone.
Can I enter my images if I have manipulated them or combined images?
Digitally manipulated images may be entered
Will my images be returned to me?
Once submitted to the contest image files will not be returned.
If I win will I have to pay taxes on my prize?
Taxes, if any, on prizes are the sole responsibility of the prize winner.
If my images are selected, will they be displayed in public?
Yes, PhotoCon Hawai‘i has made arrangements for selected images to have both press and TV exposure and also possible gallery display.
Can I mail in a print of my images?
No, sorry only digital files that have been upload to us are acceptable.
When will the winners be announced?
Workshop sponsors who provided photo contest prizes will announce whose image they have selected from the photo contest entries during their Workshop or Tech Talk. It is not mandatory that you attend the workshop but you know it would be nice! In case you miss it, all photo contest winning images and photographers names will be online on November 9th by 7pm HST.
Will my images be used in any publications?
Yes, PhotoCon Hawai‘i may reproduce and allow reproduction of select images, in approved publications.
Credit will be given to the photographer for any image(s) used.
How do I know if you received my entry?
How will I know if my submission is complete, and what do I do if it’s not?
A: If at the time of the competition’s close, a submission is incomplete (e.g. ifthe images have not been uploaded correctlyor on time), it will not be eligible for the judges consideration. Though we make every effort to make contact and to ensure completion of submissions, we are not responsible for incomplete entries and are unable to offer a refund should an entry be incomplete at the time of the competition’s close. Will I be compensated for the use of my images?
There is no monetary remuneration for the use of your images; however, contestants will be notified regarding any image usage rights should PhotoCon Hawai‘i be approached with any commercial opportunities related to a submitted image. Photographer will retain complete control over the licensing of their work and usage fee.
